LOWER DOWNTOWN

EST. 1996

After seven years of finding our way in Boulder, Gene Cahill, The Parlour owner, believed the time was right and began the search for a new location. In 1996, they decided on historic Lower Downtown, right across from Union Station. With its wooden beams, exposed brick walls and high ceilings, this location is filled with individualism and a flare for the creative spirit.

Shari Cahill was finally in charge of the space layout and design and for 18 years its gone nearly unchanged. LoDo was home to many art galleries so Shari chose the huge mirrors to “frame” our clients.

Highlights

  • The Parlour Lower Downtown was originally a horse stable for the carriages that took people from Union Station and the same basic infrastructure remains today.
  • The exterior sign was torn down the night the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup.
  • The lease was signed on Valentine’s Day 2006.
  • We opened without a certificate of occupancy. We didn’t have the heart to reschedule everyone again, and when an inspector came in, we had to pretend we were practicing and let the client leave without paying. After the client left, the CO was issued and we were officially in business.
  • Our Lower Downtown team consists of 32 people.
We looked everywhere for a place in Denver but wanted to be in LoDo. The tenant finish took our last dime. The morning we opened I stopped for a cup of coffee, all of my cards declined. We were financially broke but our spirits were never higher.
