Hair Extensions in Boulder

The Parlour has been doing hair on Walnut Street since 1989. Extensions came into the mix as the methods improved, and the Boulder team has now been placing them for many years across most of the modern application styles. If you’re looking for hair extensions in Boulder from a salon that has watched the category grow up, we’re at 1037 Walnut St in downtown Boulder, one block south of Pearl.

Extensions are not a one-size product. The right method depends on your natural hair, how much time you have for upkeep, how often you want to be in the salon, and what you want the extensions to do (length, density, or both). Everything starts with a consultation.

The four methods we offer

Tape-in extensions. Thin panels of hair are pre-taped and sandwiched between small sections of your own hair. Application is quick relative to the other methods, and the finish lies flat, which is why tape-in works well on fine to medium hair. Maintenance appointments move them up as your hair grows.

Hand-tied extensions. Rows of hair are hand-tied and secured with small beads to your natural hair, no glue and no heat. Hand-tied is a favorite for a natural finish because the row sits flat under the surface of your own hair. It suits medium to thick hair especially well.

Clip-in extensions. The lowest-commitment method. You put them in yourself in the morning and take them out at night. Useful for events, occasional volume or length, or people who want to try before committing to a semi-permanent method. We color-match clip-ins to your hair so they actually blend.

Fusion extensions. Small strands of hair bonded to your hair one at a time using a keratin tip. K-tips are the featured product here. Placement is precise, the strands move like your hair, and the finish is very natural on the right client. Fusion is a longer appointment and calls for a specific home-care routine.

We work with K-tips for fusion and Bello Haven for tape-in and hand-tied. Both are professional-only brands we trust for consistency of texture, color depth, and how the hair holds up over time.

Are extensions going to damage my hair?

An honest answer: any extension can cause damage if it’s applied by the wrong person, sized incorrectly, or left in too long between move-ups. The methods themselves are not the problem. Application skill, correct sizing, and disciplined maintenance are what protect your hair. That’s the whole reason we start with a consultation: to look at your natural hair, tell you if extensions are a good idea for you at all, and if so, which method is the fit.

If we don’t think extensions will do right by your hair right now, we’ll say so. We would rather earn your trust than book a service that damages your hair.

Color-matching matters too. Extensions only look like extensions when they don’t match. Your stylist can custom-color, tone, or gloss the hair to match your natural color, or to match a painted look you already have in from our color team. See our balayage Boulder page if painted color is part of the plan, and hair color Boulder for the full color menu.

Cost and home care

Extensions are priced by consultation. Pricing depends on the method, how much hair we need to reach your goal, the brand and length of the hair used, and any color work required to match. We give you a written estimate at your consult before anything is scheduled or ordered. If you want a rough range in advance, tell us what you’re picturing when you call and we’ll be direct about the scope.

We finish and maintain extensions with Kérastase and R+Co. The right shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, and heat protectant make a real difference in how long extensions last and how they look in month three versus month one. Your stylist will build you a home routine when we place them.
