Hair Color in Fort Collins
The Parlour has been doing hair color in Fort Collins since 1998, out of a salon on East Mountain Avenue in Old Town. Michelle Smotherman has been the partner here since day one, which means the color work walking out of this salon has come from the same leadership for the entire history of the business. That kind of continuity is unusual in this industry, and it matters when you’re trusting someone with your color.
If you’re new to us, that’s the short version of why people keep booking. Book your Fort Collins appointment – (970) 493-1375 or online.
Our color menu
We take color seriously, and we’re happy to talk through what you actually want before we start mixing anything. Here’s what we offer, with starting prices so you can plan.
Root retouch (from $84). The maintenance appointment for keeping your existing color fresh at the roots. Most clients on all-over color come in on a rhythm we set together during your first visit.
All-over color (from $97). One shade, wall to wall. Good for going darker, refreshing faded color, or making a real change from your natural.
Partial highlights (from $140 maintenance, from $154 virgin). Full highlights (from $154 maintenance, from $167 virgin). Partial covers the top and sides where the sun would naturally hit. Full wraps all the way around and underneath. Which one you want depends on how much brightness you’re after and how you wear your hair.
Dimensional color built with foils, painting, or both. Highlights, lowlights, root shadow, and glaze work together to give the color depth instead of a flat single tone. We reach for this a lot because it grows out kindly.
Gray blending for clients who want to soften the transition to gray without committing to full coverage every four weeks. We can pull grays into a highlight pattern so they read as brightness. Full opaque coverage is available too, and we’ll be straight about upkeep either way.
Color correction by consultation. If you’ve had a home-color moment, a mismatch from another salon, or a box-black situation you want out of, we build a plan and price it once we’ve seen the hair. Sometimes one appointment. Sometimes a series.
Tone, glaze, and gloss appointments refresh the tone between bigger services. If your blonde has gone brassy or your brunette has lost its shine, this is often the fix.
Balayage (from $194), plus foilyage, baby lights, teasy lights, and root shadow each from $167. Balayage gets its own page: Balayage.
Retouch with dimension (from $194) adds a bit of brightness through the mid-lengths and ends at maintenance.
Creative color, transformational color, and money piece work are priced during the consultation.
Why the colorist matters more than the shade name
Color names get thrown around online like they mean the same thing at every salon. They don’t. What actually determines your result is the person mixing the formula and reading your hair in the chair. Every stylist at The Parlour finishes our Advanced Education Program, which runs six to twelve months of in-house training after beauty school, plus two annual events with world-renowned guest artists. Then they start at Level 1 and grow with their clientele from there.
That structure is why a first-time client can trust that whoever they’re booked with knows what they’re doing. It’s also why longer-tenured clients often stay with the same person for years.

Products we use
Wella for color. Kérastase and R+Co for care and styling. If you like a product you try in the chair, we can send you home with it. If it’s not right for your hair, we’ll say so.
Who this salon is for
Everyone. Every gender identity, every hair type, every background. If you’ve been to salons before that made you feel like you had to translate what you wanted, that’s not this. Book the consultation, tell us what you’re going for, and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

Most clients on all-over color settle into a four to six week rhythm, but it depends on your hair, your shade, and how visible the regrowth reads to you. We set the cadence together at your first appointment.
