Hair Color in Boulder
The Parlour has been coloring hair in downtown Boulder since 1989, when Gene Cahill opened this salon. Located at 1037, a block south of Pearl, this is the location that started everything. If you’re looking for a hair colorist in Boulder who’s been doing this work for decades, that’s what we mean by heritage: the salon has been quietly getting Boulder’s color right for a very long time.
We’re Colorado-owned and Colorado-grown. Book your Boulder appointment – (303) 444-3747 or online.
The full color menu
Boulder color has to hold up to sun, altitude, dry air, and the pool-and-hot-springs habits of people who actually live outside. We build color that behaves in that environment.
Root retouch (from $84). A clean refresh at the root line. Most clients on solid color come in every four to six weeks.
All-over color (from $97). A single shade applied throughout. Good for going darker, going richer, evening out faded ends, or covering gray fully.
Partial highlights (from $140 maintenance, from $154 virgin). Highlights placed around the face, part, and crown. “Virgin” pricing applies the first time we lighten a section.
Full highlights (from $154 maintenance, from $167 virgin). Highlights through the full head for more lift and movement.
Retouch with dimension (from $194). Your regular retouch plus a foil refresh in the same visit.
Foilyage, baby lights, teasy lights, root shadow (from $167). Different placement techniques for depth, softness, or a more lived-in grow-out. Your colorist will talk through which fits at the consult.
Money piece and face-framing brightness. Often added to a highlight service or done on its own for a low-commitment change.
Gray blending and full gray coverage. Two different goals. Blending softens grays into your natural color with highlights and lowlights so the grow-out is gentle. Full coverage masks the grays completely. Both are welcome here.
Tone, glaze, gloss (priced by consultation). A finishing service that shifts warmth, kills brass, or adds shine.
Color correction and creative or transformational color (priced by consultation). When you’re moving across a big distance, we quote it in person after seeing your hair.
For freehand, painted balayage and modern blonding, we have a dedicated balayage page. For the brand-wide menu, see Color Services.
The stylists doing your color
Every Parlour colorist has finished our Advanced Education Program after beauty school, a six to twelve month in-house training with two annual events led by guest artists from the wider industry. Everyone starts at Level 1 and moves up as they build their clientele. Prices reflect experience level. The standard of work does not. Whichever level you book, you’re booking someone who has been through the same training.
If you want a specific stylist, tell us who; if you want our help matching you, tell us that instead and we’ll suggest someone based on what you’re trying to do.

Products we use
We use Wella color, and we finish and maintain with Kérastase and R+Co. Wella gives us the tonal control we need for accurate blonding and predictable gray coverage. Kérastase and R+Co at home are how the color still looks like itself in week eight, not just week one. Your stylist will send you home with a plan, not a shopping list.
Who this salon is for
Everyone. All gender identities, all hair types and textures, all backgrounds. If you’ve been salon-shy or you’ve felt out of place at other places in town, come in. We’ll figure out your color together.
Book with a Boulder colorist
Same-day openings happen but they’re not the rule. For color, especially anything involving lift or correction, a few days of lead time gives us the best shot at scheduling enough chair time to do the work properly.
Book online or call (303) 444-3747. We’re at 1037 Walnut St in the heart of downtown Boulder. More about the salon at The Parlour Boulder.
While you’re planning, you might also want a cut at the same visit, or hair extensions if length or thickness is part of the goal.
